Founded in 2005, the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation (HKBCF) is the first non-profit organisation dedicated to mitigating the threat of breast cancer in the local community through education, patient support, research and advocacy.

“Early Detection Saves Lives”
As a frontline healthcare professional, encountering people afflicted by different breast cancer stages every day, my care and treatment for them has repeatedly reminded me of the vital significance of this motto. I have become increasingly conscious of the importance of spreading breast health information, provision of regular breast screening, and holistic cancer care services in Hong Kong.

The later the stage of breast cancer when diagnosed, the more complex is the treatment, and a lower chance of cure. It is the mission of HKBCF to bridge the service gap. Breast cancer has been the most common cancer affecting women in Hong Kong for two decades, and the third in terms of mortality. The overall lifetime risk of breast cancer for local women has increased from 1 in 23 (2000) to 1 in 14 (2018), alerting us to this major health hazard. We must take prompt action to meet the challenge.

These tragic experiences underline the importance of redoubling our efforts in breast health education and patient support in the local community. To this end, HKBCF aims to expand access of our current scope of services through the establishment of the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation Jockey Club Breast Health Centre (Kowloon) which, I firmly believe, will benefit a wider group of people by bringing professional and accessible breast health services to them.

The HKBCF sincerely wishes that, through our tireless, persistent efforts, the threat of breast cancer to the local community will be mitigated and hence a better, healthier Hong Kong will be built.
